The UK’s best selling motorcycle alarm, the Datatool S4, has been tested and approved by both ICASA and VESA for sale in South Africa.  VESA (the Vehicle Security Association of South Africa) is the only organisation of its kind that regulates the manufacturing standards, installation standards and Certification of Vehicle Security Systems in South Africa. ICASA is the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) and the official regulator for the South African communications, broadcasting and postal services sector.

The Datatool S4, which has been on sale in the UK and Europe for four years, is being launched to the South African motorcycle market by Belfort Trading, the exclusive distributor for South Africa.

In the UK, the Datatool S4 has the highest Thatcham approval rating for insurance purposes and it is now the UK’s best selling motorcycle alarm.  Nearly half of all motorcycles in the UK have a Datatool alarm fitted.

The S4 is a unique alarm in that it is a software-based alarm system and was designed by Datatool engineers who specialise in motorcycle security. The Datatool S4 has been design specifically for motorcycles and is not a converted car alarm.

The S4 alarm has both an alarm and an immobiliser that can be set independently, and is one of the smallest available, with a surface area not much bigger than the size of a credit card.  It may be small but the alarm siren volume rivals any currently on the market and because of its incredibly small size the S4 can be installed in any bike, in any position, at any angle. There is no need for the alarm to be fitted under the seat as the Datatool S4 C1 alarm is fully waterproof and the internal shock and movement sensor automatically recalibrate. The shock and movement sensors will trigger with any movement on any angle of tilt.

The waterproof key fob is smaller and smarter too, with universal key conversions included, allowing users to combine the motorcycle’s ignition key/transponder into the Datatool remote control for added convenience.

Smart updates include a ‘winter mode’, enabling the owner to switch to ultra low current draw if the motorcycle is to be unused for a long period, so reducing the risk of flat batteries. The system even automatically warns the user should the machine’s battery start to become discharged.

A unique pin override enables the owner to disarm the alarm even if the remote control fob has been lost.  In addition, the S4 features a ‘panic’ button that can be used to locate the motorcycle from a distance or as a panic alarm.

Although the S4 is packed with many unique features, it is easy to use and comes with a credit card sized quick reference guide. 

The S4 is easy for dealers to install and comes with its own installation and testing tool, which constantly checks whether the system is being installed correctly.   During installation the sensitivity of the alarm trigger can be set to suit the motorcycle, the location of the alarm sensor and the user’s requirements.
